On the Role of Gender and Diversity in Modern Organisation Theory

New challenges such as changing environments, migration, globalisation and the increasing meaning of new information and communication technologies force organisations, more precisely firms, to develop innovative models of organisations in order to cope with these dynamics. Consequently contributions dealing with questions of multi-cultural teams and diversity emerge. Additionally feminist critiques on organisations theories lead to a shifted focus on the role of gender and gender relations in organisations. Representatives of genderrelated perspectives stress the importance to overcome the gender-gaps in organisations in order to make firms fit for the future. The rather euphoric views that genderand diversity management concepts present qualitatively new approaches have to be questioned in particular when it comes to questions of power and economic resource distributions. Thus the paper will evaluate the mentioned modern management concepts in terms of basic assumptions made. The core topic of the paper will be: gender and diversity management: old wine in new bags?
